Summary
On October 16, 2017, Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese investigative journalist who took on corrupt politicians, millionaires, and criminals, was murdered by a car bomb not far from her home after years of death threats and libel suits. This book, written by her son, is about her life, her work, her death and her family’s search for justice.
Challenges
This is my 9th book for the Read Europe 2024 Challenge started by Gillian C. Dumas, and my 13th for my Around the Globe in 193 Books Challenge.
My thoughts
It was an engaging story, informative, well-balanced, and surprisingly unbiased, given that it’s a son writing about his mother’s murder. Ultimately, I came away caring and feeling like I had learned something.
I did listen to this in the audiobook format, read by the author, but I think I would have preferred the print format. Many of the names and locations were new to me, and the history was entirely new to me, so I would have liked to have been able to flip back and re-read and check where I had seen names before. I’m also one of those people who do better reading names, than I do hearing them if I want to remember them.
