Summary

Between the unnaturally hot summer and Eion’s temporarily stalled plans to open a new restaurant, tensions are running high in the O’Sullivan-Flannery household. Siobhán’s husband, Macdara, has come up with a solution – a vacation. He’s heard that there’s a chipper in the seaside town of Lahinch that needs help to survive, and Siobhán loves a good chipper. So, together with Siobhán’s 5 siblings and the family dog, the couple heads off for a holiday. Arriving in town, the first thing Siobhán wants to do is get a belly full of fish and chips. Instead, she finds a dead body. Her police instincts kick in, and, in spite of the vacation, she’s determined to catch a killer.

My Thoughts

This is a well-crafted mystery. The pacing was perfect with the plot twists coming at just the right times. There were enough suspects to make figuring out the identity of the murderer a challenge, but enough clues to make it possible for readers to solve it. 

The characters were wonderful. I especially enjoyed the relationship between Siobhán and her siblings. This was my first book in the series, so I was nervous about having to remember who each of the siblings was, but they have such distinct personalities that it wasn’t a problem. 

Siobhán is a great protagonist. She’s clever and funny and great at her job. She and Macdara are a wonderful crime fighting duo. They balance each other well. 

This book is the tenth in the Irish Village Mystery Series. I had no problem catching on to the characters, and I will definitely be reading more in the series now.
